Competitive Salary Structure

The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office offers a competitive salary structure. Our deputies are currently some of the highest-paid in the state of Virginia. Salary Information is outlined below. Salary figures reflect base pay and do not include overtime, which deputies are eligible for after graduating and completing their required 10-week Field Training Program.

PAY SCALE:
Newly hired Deputy: C17 step 1-6

Criteria A

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised.

Criteria B

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised and possesses an associate degree from an accredited college or university (any discipline).

Criteria C

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised and a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer, certified corrections officer, or jailor. Full-time experience is measured from the date of initial appointment with the respective corrections or jail employer(s). The candidate must receive favorable reference(s) from current or previous corrections or jail employer(s).

Criteria D

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised and graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum bachelor’s degree (any discipline).

Criteria E

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised and a minimum of three (3) years of active military service, an honorable discharge and must provide a DD Form 214, or at least six (6) years of service in the Reserve Components of the United States Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge if applicable and must provide DD Form 214 or discharge orders as applicable.

Criteria F

Candidate meets the minimum requirements as advertised and a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer in the state of Virginia, holding current DCJS certification. Full-time experience is measured from the date of initial appointment with the respective law enforcement employer(s). The candidate must receive favorable reference(s) from current or previous law enforcement employer(s).

Incentive Pay:

In addition to base salary, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office offers several forms of incentive pay for qualifying deputies:

  • Bilingual Pay $100/month
  • Field Training Instructor Pay (FTI) additional $6.00/hourly
  • Shift Differential for evening or night shifts – $157.50/month for evenings and $332.50/month for night shifts
  • Longevity pay – 5% pay increase received at 15, 20, and 25 years of service
  • $700.00 annual uniform allowance

  • 15 paid holidays per year

Annual Leave:

  • 0-3 years of service – 104+ hours yearly
  • 4-15 years of service – 156+ hours yearly
  • 15+ years of service – 208+ hours yearly

Compensatory Leave:

  • Compensatory time is earned and credited to an employee’s records based on actual hours worked more than the employee’s scheduled hours, paid at 1.5 times your regular rate.

Sick Leave

  • 104+ hours yearly

Paid Family Leave

Paid leave of up to 6 weeks in a single twelve-month period granted to eligible employees for any qualifying reason that would be covered under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
