Internship Program

The Sheriff’s Office sponsors an in-depth internship program that focuses on law enforcement and corrections. Interns will have the opportunity to tour, observe and learn about the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, Courthouse, Criminal Justice Academy and Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health. Interns may also do a civil enforcement ride-along.

We accept applications year-round so please note your desired time frame for completion. The internship coordinator will contact you to discuss scheduling when an opening becomes available. Interns can earn course credit but not monetary compensation.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older (under 18 accepted with approval)
  • Must not have ever committed, or been involved in, any act that would constitute a felony or serious misdemeanor
  • Pass a Background Check
  • United States citizen

Application Process:

  • Complete, print and mail the intern screening form
  • Submit a cover letter and resume
  • Submit a written recommendation from school or academic program (if needed)
  • If you will be receiving academic credit for participation, submit a copy of the academic requirements for the course
  • If you are conditionally accepted into the internship program, you will be sent a detailed personal history form to complete, and you will be subject to a background investigation
