This assignment supports the daily operation of the court system by helping maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment for everyone who uses the courts.
About the Deputy Role in Court Services
Court Services deputies handle the hands-on security work that keeps the courthouse moving. Deputies maintain order in courtrooms, support security screening, monitor entrances and public areas, escort inmates from the Adult Detention Center, assist with juror safety, and help protect judges, court staff, visitors, and the public.
This role requires awareness, communication, confidence, and the ability to stay calm in a busy public setting.
Court Services Responsibilities
- Protect judges, courtrooms, jurors, and courthouse visitors
- Maintain order inside courtrooms
- Support courthouse security screening
- Monitor entrances, exits, public areas, and non-public areas
- Screen for weapons and contraband
- Monitor security cameras
- Escort inmates from the Adult Detention Center to courtrooms
- Move inmates between courtrooms, holding cells, and secure areas
- Support juror safety and sequestration when needed
- Provide security for courts in Fairfax, Herndon, and Vienna
- Enforce laws in the Courthouse and Public Safety Complex
- Support safety across the 52-acre Public Safety Complex
